Eyes talk more than a person, but a different and a distinct eye colour can surely grab a lot of attention.

No wonder, even B-town has been obsessed with the eye colours of its beauties. Songs like 'Kathai aankhon wali ladki' and 'Dil dooba nili aankhon me dil dooba' are examples of that. Lately, we have observed that this obsession has become a part of many Nagpur girls as well, and they are resorting to coloured cosmetic lenses to get a chic look. NT tells you all about this fad...

Inspired by Hollywood
"There are many Hollywood celebrities with blue eyes, and they inspired me to go in for the blue lenses," says 17-year-old student Shrinidhi Iyer, who has been wearing cosmetic lenses for eight months. She adds, "Coloured lenses are exciting and they give you a different look. My eye colour is dark brown and I used to wear spectacles initially, so switching to colored lenses was a little difficult initially as people around took time to accept the change. But now, it's all OK and I wear them regularly!"

For special occasions
If Shrinidhi wears cosmetic lenses regularly, Priyanka Gurnani, a 22-year-old CA student, wears them only on special occasions. She says, "I had worn spectacles for eight years. But, 2-3 years back I started wearing blue coloured lenses as I love Aishwarya Rai's eyes. My friends found it pretty cool. I wear them whenever I go to parties with my friends and avoid them when I'm around my relatives as they don't really like the change. Cosmetic lenses can totally transform your personality, but you should know what colour suits you. And that's the reason; I avoid green, as it doesn't look good on me!"

Seconding the fact, that a pair of coloured lenses gives you a totally different look, Shivani Sinhmar, a 19-year old engineering student, says, "One of my friends has brown eyes and she looks amazing. That inspired me to take up cosmetic lenses. So, even though I don't wear spectacles, I wear cosmetic lenses just for the special look they give me. If you team them up with the right dress, they can really enhance your looks. These days I wear grey lenses, but I have experimented with brown as well. It's my fourth pair in the last two years."

High on demand
Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, a city ophthalmologist, says that the demand for cosmetic lenses has been on the rise lately. He says, "People, who want to experiment with their looks very often, generally go for cosmetic lenses. The demand rises especially during the festive season as youngsters choose the colour of their lenses according to the different dresses they wear. Cosmetic lenses can range from Rs 400 a pair to Rs 2000 a pair. And this navratri, I had a lot of youngsters asking for cosmetic lenses and I sold at least 25-30 pairs. Hazel, light blue and grey are the most popular colours. Although there is no harm caused due to use of lenses, certain precautions should be taken to avoid any damage and infection to the eye
